+ What is a Learner's Licence?
A learnerís licence is a provisional permit certifying you to have a basic theoretical knowledge of driving a motor vehicle.
Learnerís licence codes are divided into three categories. Each category has a stipulated age specification.

< Code A, A1 : Motorcycles (Applicants need to be 16 years and older for a Code A1 learners)
< Code B, EB : Light Motor Vehicles (Applicants need to be 17 years and older for a Code A, B and EB learners)
< Code C, C1, EC, EC1 : Heavy Motor Vehicles (Applicants need to be 18 years and older for a Code C. C1, EC and EC1 learners)
+ How to apply for a Learner's Licence?
■ The applicant needs to make an application personally with a valid identity document; copy of ID and two photos at their nearest testing
■ The applicant will need to complete the form LL1.
■ You will be required to undertake an eye test at the testing centre before his/ her booking can be confirmed.
■ Pay the prescribed fee as allocated by the different provinces traffic departments.
On the day of the test, the applicant is required to bring the booking receipt issued by the testing centre, a valid identity document and
additional fee for the issue of the learner's licence certificate upon the applicant being successful. Applicants whom pass the test must be
issued with a Learner's Licence Certificate on the same day.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF APPLICANTS ARRIVE LATE OR WITHOUT THE ABOVE DOCUMENTATION, THEY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO WRITE
THE TEST AND WILL FORFEIT ANY FEES PAID.
+ What does the Learner's Licence test consists of?
The learner's licence test comprises of the three main aspects of driving knowledge namely:
< The Rules Of The Road ( 28 Questions )
< Road Traffic Signs, Traffic Signals and Road Surface Markings ( 28 Questions )
< The Controls Of The Vehicle ( 8 Questions )
The test comprises 64 questions with a duration of one hour. The examiner will explain the test and layout prior to commencement. If you are
not sure about anything regarding the test, please ask the examiner. You will need to attain a minimum mark in each section to obtain a
+ What period of time is a Learner's Licence valid for?
A learner's licence is valid for a period of 24 months (2 years) from date of issue. It is advisable after obtaining your learner's licence is
to confirm a booking date for your driver's licence test and to begin with lessons with a recognised and reputable driving school.
+ Limitations of a Learner's Licence
When you have a learner's licence:
< you may only drive under the supervision of a person in possession of a valid driver's license for the same category of vehicle which you
intend to drive.
< this person should be seated next to you, or directly behind you if they are not able to sit next to you.
< in the case of a motorcycle without a side-car, you may not carry a passenger and therefore your instructor may not sit on the same
motorcycle as you.
